Description

Chevalier Montrachet 1996
Domaine Leflaive
Bottle (2)

Wonderful selection of wines from the cellar of one of Europe’s most knowledgeable wine collectors. Immaculate provenance: ALL wines purchased upon original European release through meticulous natural distribution channels and stored in a purpose-built temperature and humidity-controlled cellar.

"An absolutely stunningly elegant nose soars from the glass offering almost unbelievably good delineation and nuanced white flower fruit and subtle petrol notes with detailed, pure and racy middle weight complex flavors underpinned by intense minerality and superb length. This is still youthful though it is so fine and pure that it's still a joy to drink now. In short, this is reference standard stuff." (96 pts. Allen Meadows, Burghound, March 2010)

"An absolutely stunningly elegant, and now fully mature, nose soars from the glass offering really lovely layering with its notes of white flowers, citrus, green apple and a variety of spice elements along with a hint of petrol. There is first-rate delineation to the equally pure, racy and overtly mineral-driven middle weight flavors that deliver superb depth and persistence on the clean, bone-dry and impeccably well-balanced finale. This chiseled and very classy effort is one of those rare wines that has drunk well from the day it was released and continues to do so today. In sum, this is reference standard Chevalier where I have multiple and consistent notes. Moreover, notwithstanding Leflaive's singificant problems with premature oxidation before going to the Diam brand composite cork, I have never had a poor bottle of this particular wine." (96 pts. Allen Meadows, Burghound, Nov. 2023)
