Originally established by Claude Leflaive in 1717, the winery would change hands between the Leflaive family and negociants, for many years. From 1870 to 1953, Domaine Leflaive came back under the management of Joseph Leflaive, a native Frenchman and local resident of Puligny-Montrachet. When real estate was at an all-time low in value, Leflaive seized a grand opportunity and purchased 25 hectares, 62 acres of prime, yet under-cultivated vineyards. Joseph's two sons, Jo and Vincent Leflaive managed the historic crus after his death in 1953 and the winery's reputation as one of the finest in the Burgundy region was solidified. Since 1990, Anne Claude Leflaive, daughter of Vincent Leflaive, has been managing the Domaine which, since 1997 has been running as a certified biodynamic winemaker. Sadly, Anne Claude passed away in 2015 at the age of 59.
The highlights of Domaine Leflaive are the 4 incredible Grand Cru offerings which include Bienvenue Batard Montrachet, Batard Montrachet, Chevalier Montrachet, and their flagship Montrachet. Not to be overshadowed, their stable of 1er Cru whites are among the most sought after among white Burgundy collectors.
