Description
Batard Montrachet 1996Domaine Leflaive
2sos
Bottle (6)
"A moderately particular nose of menthol, petrol and hints of sulfur that required more than an hour to entirely dissipate but otherwise and aromas are ripe, intense and fragrant followed by gorgeously detailed, powerful, rich and muscular flavors that possess outstanding length. Curiously for a grand cru from the '96 vintage, this seems quite approachable now but there is so much underlying material that it should drink well for another decade." (92pts Allen Meadows, Burghound, Nov 2006)
"The 1996 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is a great wine from the late Anne-Claude Leflaive. Yes, there is quite a heavy reduction on the nose with strong struck match notes, but it dissipates with aeration after 90 minutes. The palate has lovely weight and intensity, notes of orange peel and curd, steely and taut at first but opening with time in the glass with real precision on the finish. Do not be afraid to give this an hour's decanting." (95 pts. Neal Martin, Vinous, May 2019)
