Description
Chateau Petrus 1982Pomerol
1lscl, 1lbsl, 2sdc
Bottle (6)
"Thick and sweet and actually rather austere still. Long. Intense. Mineral. More Médoc-like than the Ch Lafleur 1982 tasted alongside. Quite lush with notes of gunpowder somehow. Round. Smoky. Some right-bank bloody character." (18+pts JR, April 2010)
"...the colour is deeper, slightly more opaque. The bouquet is certainly tighter and more youthful with a little earthiness and singed leather infusing the dark berry fruit, later joined by a scintilla of shucked oyster shell. The palate is wonderful: fine tannin, perfectly pitched acidity, great depth and complexity than bottle examples. It felt almost flinty in the mouth, quite linear and direct with a very persistent finish." (97 pts. Neal Martin, Vinous, Sep. 2018)
"Dark ruby garnet. Intense tobacco, cedar, berry and blackberry. Full-bodied, silky, firm and fresh. Long. A beauty. One of the best bottles I have ever had." (96 pts. James Suckling, Wine Spectator, June 2001)
“The floral, expressive nose was full of smoked meats, caramel, olives, roasted herbs, cherry jam and cedar. Fruity and smooth on the palate, mouthwatering with bite and a metallic tang to the finish, it feels polished and highly charged still – the acidity and overall sleekness are exceptional, though it was missing just a touch of mid-palate depth. Given the rare chance to taste Petrus 1982, I was expecting brilliance and while the wine was delicious, it didn’t quite have the amplitude I was hoping for, but it will continue to give pleasure for a long time yet. Made by Christian Moueix and Jean-Claude Berrouet, who favoured elegance over extraction.” (95 pts. Georgina Hindle, Decanter, May 2023)
