The Perfect Arc Cellar. This is one of those rare collections that touches upon all the most beautiful parts of the wine growing world, both deep and broad in its scope. Most every wine was purchased on release and stored in an impeccable temperature and humidity-controlled facility.
"Jean-Michel Cazes was rather dismissive of this treasure exhumed from his cellar ('ce n'est pas grandiose') but I loved it – especially since it had not a trace of 1988's stubbornness about it. Sweet, round and rich, it was initially served blind and was obviously something exceptional. Lovely cleanliness as well as flattering sumptuousness. Tannins difficult to discern. Acidity well integrated." (18.5/20 pts. Jancis Robinson, July 2015)
“The 1988 Petrus fooled me when served blind. Its opulence tricked me into thinking it was the Le Pin tasted alongside. This might be partly because this came from magnum. It has a gorgeous nose, more expressive than the bottle at the Petrus vertical, with veins of blue fruit and iodine, thyme and sous-bois. Quite bold. The palate is medium-bodied and much less austere than its bottled counterpart, with impressive density, though without that peacock's tail that the next two vintages boast. Yet a very ‘useful’ Petrus that will give another couple of decades of drinking pleasure.” (93 pts. Neal Martin, Vinous, Feb. 2024)
