Colgin Cellars, a winery located in Napa Valley, California, was founded in 1992 by Ann Colgin. In 1997 she planted her first grapes. All vintages from 1992-97 were produced with grapes she had purchased. Ann Colgin now owns the Tychson Estate where she replanted the vineyard with grapes. In 1998 she also purchased the IX Estate, where they now produce wine.
One of their older wines, the 1994 "Herb Lamb Vineyard" Cabernet Sauvignon, is considered to be a popular vintage. They released 500 cases of this wine in November 1997. It has a very rich feel on the palate filled with cherry, black plums, coffee, tobacco, and bitter chocolate. It should be served straight from the bottle, to not stir the precipitates.
The 1999 Cariad is another beautiful vintage from Colgin Cellars and their first bottled Bordeaux style wine. It is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and, 5% Cabernet Franc.The color is dark, paired with the taste of jammy fruits and ripe tannins. The Cariad features fresh blueberry jam and was aged for 26 months in Taransaud barrels. 450 cases were released in November 2002.
The 2000 "Tychson Hill Vineyard" is the first vintage of estate grown Cabernet Sauvignon produced by Colgin Cellars. It contains a beautiful scent of ripe berries, earth and minerals. The Tychson Hill Vineyard is a rich, black color and has a long finish worth savoring. This vintage is aged in Taransaud barrels for 25 months. 400 cases were released in November of 2003.
Colgin Cellars currently lists the 2012 Cariad as their featured wine. It is a red wine that includes the taste of ripe fruits, currants, and a smokey feel that will dance on your palate. This specific wine has a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 9% Petit Verdot.
Colgin Cellars produces four delicious wines, all worth tasting. The wines produced are the IX Estate Red Wine, the IX Estate Syrah, the Cariad Red Wine, and the Tychson Hill Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon.
