Domaine Hubert Lignier is a family owned estate that covers nine hectares in Morey St Denis, in the heart of Cote de Nuits. It was established in 1880 by Jacques Lignier and has then been passed down from father to son; to his son Jules then Henri and finally Hubert. In 1992, Romaine, Hubert’s son joined his father in the running of the business but unfortunately died of a brain tumor in 2004. In 2006, Hubert’s other son, Laurent, took over the business making it flourish with his commercial and technical skills.
Following the death of Romain Lignier, the family estate split into two; Domaine Hubert Lignier Pere & Fills that is ran and managed by Hubert and his son Laurent and Domaine Lucie et Auguste Lignier, named after Romain’s two children by his wife, Kellen Lignier who manages this Domaine. Hubert still maintains the right to some of the grapes farmed by Kellen and her team as well as to a proportion of the wine she makes. This means that for the most part, Domain Hubert Lignier wines are grown and vinified by Domaine Lucie and Auguste Lignier but bottled by Hubert and his son, Laurent.
Remarkably ageworthy, well-endowed wines, Hubert Lignier wines possess that “wow factor” that so many look for in great Burgundy. His 1er Cru offerings are tremendous wines that show flashes of Grand Cru quality, while his Grand Cru wines are extremely limited and highly sought after. His Clos de la Roche is the pinnacle of this domaine’s esteemed line up.
