Domaine Ramonet's history dates back to the 19th century when Claude Ramonet (an ex-miller) moved to Chassagne in the Burgundy region and transitioned his life work to vineyard maintenance. Years later, two of his three children continued his legacy in winemaking, but son Pierre Ramonet carried on the Domaine Ramonet name. For a time, it was called Domaine Ramonet-Prudhon, reflecting Pierre Ramonet's marriage to winemaking heiress Lucie Prudhon, daughter of the Duc de Magenta's chef de culture at the Domaine de l'Abbaye de Morgeot. Two generations later the Ramonet legacy continues through Pierre's grandsons, Noël and Jean-Claude Ramonet.

The first vineyard that Pierre Ramonet purchased was in the 1930s and soon later the resulting aromatic flavor made its way to two very important palates, that of Raymond Baudoin, one of the founders of the Revue des Vins de France, and American friend Frank Schoonmaker. Between these two men, the Ramonet wine made its way through France and to the United States. Over the next few decades, several more parcels of land were purchased on premier cru and grand cru land. Ramonet’s flagship offerings including a quartet of Grand Crus, coming from Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet, Batard Montrachet and Bienvenue Batard Montrachet. These gorgeous efforts have major aging potential, proof of which can be found in the early 80s bottlings that still command top dollar. Their portfolio continues with a series of 1er Cru wines that will continuously impress with complexity and depth most often seen by others in their Grand Cru offerings. Few can compare to the glorious efforts at this domaine.
