Established in 1967, Domaine Dujac in Morey St. Denis is a young estate by Burgundian standards. The estate was founded by Jacques Seyess who was introduced to wines at a young age by his father, Louis Seyess who, away from his day job as the owner of a biscuit company, was also very interested in fine dining and consequently the wines as accompaniment. Having tried to work in banking and the biscuit business, Jacques found that his heart was solely in wine. After working in a number of vineyards in Burgundy, learning as much as he could, he acquired his first 4.5 hectare of Domaine Graillet in Morey St. Denis. This has grown to be the 15.5 hectares Domaine Dujac that now includes holdings in Clos de le Roche, Clos St Denis, Bonnes-Mares, Echezeaux, Romanee St. Vivant, Chambertin and Charmes Chambertin.
The day to day running of the vineyard has now been left to Jacques’ sons, Jeremy and Alec along with Jeremy’s wife, Diana. Together they have helped turn Dujac in to a major force in Burgundy, and while the lineup contains a large array of wines, the wines disappear quite easily. Their dedication to traditional winemaking and farming practices is not overlooked by collectors.
A thrilling producer of ageworthy wines, Dujac is as dominant as any in the auction world. The scope of their portfolio can be seen in the pages of almost any auction catalog; even down to mature vintages of their village level Domaine wines.
