Armand Rousseau

Region: Burgundy

Three generations of Rousseaus have shaped the legacy of Burgundy wines. Armand Rousseau, who first inherited and received vineyards through a marriage in the early 1900s, became one of the first to grow, produce, and bottle wine all in Burgundy. Similar to his success in producing high-quality wine, throughout his life he enjoyed great success in acquiring beautiful and expansive vineyards due to his knowledge as a broker. His grandson, Eric, continues to run the winemaking empire; Armand Rousseau produces wine from over 14 hectacres of vineyards. Armand Rousseau continues to pay homage to its founder and let their Pinot noir grapes speak for themselves. Little manipulations are done by the winemakers. The process begins with 90% destemming, and fermentation for 18-20 days. Fermentation is done just above 30 degrees Celsius, then pressed, left to settle for 24 hours, and then transferred to barrels. New oak barrels are brought in every year to assure the wine is stored in the best barrels. Of all Chambertin wines, Armand Rousseau wines are considered the finest and of the highest quality.

With so many great terroirs under control by the Rousseau family, most collector's seek out the big 3"; Chambertin, Clos de Beze, and Gevrey Chambertin Clos St. Jacques. Rousseau fans will also want to seek out their stunning Clos des Ruchottes Chambertin as well.
