Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, which is also referred to as Chateau Pichon Lalande, produces a Bordeaux type of wine in France. It was once a larger estate, however, in 1850 it was split into two separate estates. In 1925 Edouard Miailhe and Louis Miailhe purchased the estate, later, May Eliane Lencquesaing, daughter of Edouard Miailhe, took over the property. In 2006, she sold to the Rouzaud family.
61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot, is the grape blend Chateau Pichon Lalande now uses. The planted grapes show a more ample amount of Cabernet Sauvignon, while everything else decreased after decades, making for a welcome change. Because of the high Merlot content it is not as tannic as some of its neighboring wine. The vines are completely farmed organically on a 75 hectare property. They even have a neighboring vineyard in St-Julien. The vinification is done in steel vats to allow for precise fermentation of the wine. Afterwards it is allowed to mature for 18 months, in barrels made from oak. An average of thirty six thousand cases of Chateau Pichon Lalande wines are made yearly.
Reserve de Comtesse is their second wine, which debuted in 1973. The beautiful winery also produces a limited quantity of Les Gartieux de Pichon Lelande, which is their third wine. Some of Chateau Pichon Lalande's best vintages are said to be the 2000-2014, the late 1990s and mid to late 1980s.
1995 was said to be a difficult year in Bordeaux, though the Chateau Pichon Lalande doesn’t show this. It has a silky, velvet feel with delicious plum, black cherry and chocolate. The 2000 Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande has a thick, concentrated taste that will not disappoint. The wine has scents of tobacco, plum, blackberry, and smoke to entice your nose. The concentrated, fresh wine is filled with ripe plums, with a beautiful concentration and finish.
Chateau Pichon Lalande produces beautiful, velvety feeling, luxurious wines sure to fill a spot in anyone’s collection or leave a magnificent feel and taste on the palate of connoisseurs.
