Description

Montrachet 1999
Domaine de la Romanee Conti
banded owc
Bottle (3)
"Wonderfully full bodied, though one of the three bottles had very strong bottle stink, alas. Honeyed richness on the nose. Mellow and round with lots of density and the suggestion of hidden depths. A hint of marzipan. Seems as though it's going to open out although it is already giving masses of pleasure. Just a little whiff of struck matches. This was the favourite vintage with the group of tasters." (19pts JR, Nov 2010)

"Massively rich with laser beam-like focus of elegant white flower fruit, rich, lemon tinged flavors of wonderful purity, good complexity and terrific length. The balance, flavor detail and elegance, not to mention raw power is something to behold. If this continues to add weight and power, my rating will certainly prove to be conservative." (93 pts. Allen Meadows, Burghound #7, July 2002)

"While this is not overtly exotic the expressive, fresh and wonderfully layered nose is clearly quite ripe with no secondary nuances in evidence on the elegant white fruit, floral, spice and sandalwood-infused aromas. Despite the notably ripeness there is a cool, even reserved mouth feel to the muscular, powerful, concentrated and intense big-bodied flavors that coat the palate with sappy dry extract, all wrapped in an explosive, long and well-balanced finale. What is interesting about this wine is that even with all of the power and punch there is absolutely no sense of undue weight or heaviness. For my taste this has just arrived at its peak though it should continue to hold for at least another decade." (94 pts. Allen Meadows, Burghound, Apr. 2015)
