    Description

    Nuits St. Georges 2005
Clos de la Marechale, J.F. Mugnier
    Magnum (6)
"In contrast to the expressiveness of the first two '05s, here there is a completely different aromatic profile and one that is brooding with more deeply pitched and quite ripe blue and violet aromas combining with pungent earth and game hints that continue onto the sweet, rich and sappy flavors wrapped around a firm tannic spine. This is impressive as it is clearly Nuits in character yet with refined and sophisticated structural elements." (92pts Allen Meadows, Burghound #29, Jan 2008)

"There is an unusual touch of menthol (for a Mugnier wine) sitting atop the relatively deeply pitched and quite ripe blue and violet-suffused nose where additional breadth is present in the form of discreet earth and game hints. There is good volume and mid-palate density to the sweet, rich and sappy flavors that are wrapped around a moerately firm tannic spine while the lingering finish tightens up considerably. As is often the case this is a relatively refined Nuits and while it's still on the way up this is not so structured that it could not be enjoyed now provided that it was given 30 to 45 minutes of air first." (91 pts. Allen Meadows, Burghound, June 2015)
