Description

Musigny 1999
G. Roumier
Bottle (2)

"(with thanks to Pat Dukes). A wonderfully perfumed nose that displays spicy, elegant, intense black fruit that is nuanced by spice, earth and hints of stems and menthol while introducing intense and round but powerful and delineated flavors that offer excellent depth and outstanding length. The finish displays lots of pinot sap and there is plenty of structure that is ripe and not hard as the balance is truly impeccable. Fireworks in a glass and this should be one of the longest lived wines of the vintage yet it is sufficiently accessible that it can be approached now; still, it seems a shame to waste all this potential so unless you're desperately curious, I would strongly advise patience. In sum, this is a very powerful Musigny of truly stunning potential. Note: I have tasted this multiple times now and the most recent bottle displayed a surprising amount of new wood though the density of the mid-palate leaves little doubt that it will eventually be absorbed."
