Echezeaux 2004
Domaine de la Romanee Conti
#02318, #02319
Bottle (2)

Property of a first-time consignor, referred by one of our longest relationships. All wines purchased on release or as futures from reputable retailers and stored in a purpose-built temperature and humidity-controlled cellar.

"In contrast to a very good bottle I enjoyed in 2009, the most recent bottle was a bit herbal in character with a slightly spiky finish. Based on this bottle, the '04 Ech appears to be fully mature and probably should be drunk up over the next 5ish years. The 2009 note was: Deep ruby. A penetrating nose of moderately high-toned spicy black fruit trimmed in violets and floral notes that remains completely primary leads to supple but intense flavors that are rich and refined with excellent finishing energy and more refinement than I usually find here. I particularly like the fine balance and there is a sense of opulence here due to the heady spice notes. This should drink well earlier than most vintages." (91 pts. Allen Meadows, Burghound, Nov. 2021)

I particularly like the fine balance and there is a sense of opulence here due to the heady spice notes and this too will be approachable relatively early yet be capable of a decade's worth of improvement. There is no reason that the wine should have changed much in only 5 years but there is perhaps a bit more depth than I originally foresaw developing this early on and I have raised my score slightly."
