    Clos Vougeot 2005
    Bottle (3)
"At this very early stage, this is unusually elegant and refined with a mix of upper register red and dark berry fruit aromas redolent of warm earth, iron, anise and a hint of the sauvage that leads to rich, full and serious big-bodied flavors built like a body builder but it's not rustic or crude as the very firm tannins are completely buffered by the buckets of sève that lend a velvety quality to the stunningly complex finish. I don't wish to over use the term but like the Charmes and the Beaux Monts, this is reference standard quality and flat out great." (94-97pts Allen Meadows, Burghound #25, Jan 2007)

"It is remarkable that at 11 years of age this appears to have changed very little since my first encounter with it in November 2006 as the color is still quite dark and the brooding nose remains almost entirely primary with notes of menthol, wood, black cherry, cassis, spice and plenty of earth scents. The palate impression is concentrated to the point of being borderline massive with seeming limitless reserves of mouth coating dry extract that pushes to the background the still very firm tannic spine shaping the extraordinarily long finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. This blockbuster of a Clos de Vougeot will live for decades to come; indeed it is not even remotely close to being ready and incredibly, my projected initial drinking window of 2030+ may in fact be unduly optimistic as this is very clearly constructed for the very long-term." (98 pts. Allen Meadows, Burghound #66, Apr. 2017)
