Description

Clos Vougeot 1989
Leroy
3lscl
Bottle (3)
"The barest trace of bricking and a deep ruby center with very high toned, very fresh, ever-so-slightly austere, earthy fruit leads to delicious, sappy, full-bodied, entirely serious flavors that deliver impressive volume if not necessarily great density on the very long backend. While this can be approached, it is still on the way up as the there is a touch of angularity to the finish and while it is not lean, there is some unresolved tannin that should soften with another 3 to 5 years of bottle age. This does not risk drying out as the fruit is still largely primary. In sum, this is extremely impressive and all the more so for a solid though not spectacular vintage." (92pts Allen Meadows, Burghound, April 2004)
