"Beautifully rich, gamy, earthy aromas framing big, rich, round and relatively elegant flavors in the context of the vintage that display notes of leather, spice and remarkable complexity with a gorgeous velvety texture on the still tight finish. A very impressive wine that can be enjoyed now as the flavors are accessible yet this is arguably still on the way up. As good as this wine is however, it can't match the superb '90 Clos St. Denis; then again, few '90s can. Multiple and consistent notes." (94pts Allen Meadows, Burghound, Sept 2008)
"A beautifully complex nose of secondary fruit, game, smoke, earth and plenty of spice nuances leads to big, rich, round and solidly powerful full-bodied flavors that deliver seriously good length on the mouth coating, velvety, balanced and hugely long finish. There is still some unresolved structure though in my view this has arrived at its peak; that said, this should enjoy an extraordinarily long window of peak drinkability.
