    Bonnes Mares 1945
    Domaine Belorgey
    2(4.5cm), 2(7cm), 4hbsl, 3tl, excellent color
    Bottle (4)

"Tasted four times since 2007, most recently in August 2015. In 1952, the Belorgey parcel of Bonnes Mares was brought by Roumier (the largest piece), Domaine Clair-Dau, and Maison Ponnelle. A bottle tasted in January 2007 (at the tasting described in the note for the 1945 Roumier Bonnes Mares) had a medium-dark color, a restrained nose of soy, lavender, red fruit and hint of tar and a palate that was quite dense, with black fruit, a sweet mouthfeel, good acidity, lots of power and excellent length with still some tannin at the end. Christophe Roumier said it reminded him of his domaine's '45 Bonnes Mares. Another bottle, tasted in September 2008, was if anything slightly better; an intense nose had complex spice, black fruit and an almost tarry quality. It had a density reminiscent of a pre-phyllox-era wine, powerful but still with lots of fruit and gamy quality and it was very layered. The finish was extremely persistent, with a touch of tannin remaining. A bottle tasted in 2013 was not up to the level of the other two and seemed a bit muddled, but another bottle tasted in 2015 had great density and intensity and was nearly as good as the best." (97 pts. Doug Barzelay, Burgundy Vintages, 2018)
