Description
Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1947Pauillac
hs, ltal
Magnum (1)
"I have never had anything but extraordinary, decadent, fabulously rich, concentrated bottles of the 1947 Mouton-Rothschild. The exotic, ostentatious bouquet of ginger, mint, coffee, cedar, and gobs of cassis fruit is followed by a syrupy, viscously-textured, thick, juicy Mouton that is bursting with fruit. Although drinkable since I first tasted it over a decade ago, it exhibits no signs of fruit loss or color deterioration. It is one of the most exotic and opulent Mouton-Rothschilds I have ever tasted." (98pts Robert Parker, Bordeaux Book 3rd Ed., Jan 1998)

"The 1947 Mouton Rothschild comes like a bolt out of the blue in terms of its precision and sense of control. Having encountered both 1947s from Haut-Brion and Latour recently, there is no question that Mouton-Rothschild is the best First Growth (in all but name at the time!) since it harnesses the opulence of that hot summer with Pauillac's reserve and blue-bloodedness. Like the 1949 Mouton, the 1947 is deep in colour with thin bricking on the rim commensurate with its age. The bouquet is effervescent and shimmers with energy: vestiges of red berry fruit, orange sorbet, peppermint, hints of Medjool dates and graphite all brilliantly aligned. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, the precocious red fruit effortlessly counterbalanced by a killer line of acidity that to be honest, I have never found on any other 1947. It is a powerful and audacious Mouton-Rothschild with a scintillating finish that just leaves you breathless. This is a hair's breadth away from perfection." (99 pts. Neal Martin, Vinous, June 2018)
