DescriptionChateau Margaux 1924
vhs, bsl, wrl, great color, acquired at a charity auction in 1990
"The 1924 Chateau Margaux is actually a vintage that I have tasted once before. This bottle had such turbidity that I wavered whether to actually take a sip. Mothballs, mahogany antique bureau and there is something sweet, like burnt molasses, even a touch of cooked meat. Surprisingly the palate was still not just drinkable, but enjoyable. For certain, it is long past its best, but there is a sweet and mellow core, a sucrosity that soon makes you forget the murkiness. Any bottles should be consumed in the near future and it is probably for curiosity only now, but don't let its appearance dissuade you from taking a sip." (83 pts. Neal Martin, Wine Advocate 227, Oct. 2016)
