Chateau La Mission Haut Brion 1961
    ts, lbsl, nl, lcc
    Bottle (1)
"One of the greatest 1961s, La Mission-Haut-Brion has been fabulous to drink for the last 5-10 years. Where well-stored, this wine will continue to drink well for 10-20 years. More developed and drinkable than the 1959, it remains a thick, rich, super-aromatic wine with a textbook Graves bouquet of tobacco, barbecued meats, minerals, spices, and sweet red and black fruits. Dense, full-bodied, alcoholic, and super-rich, this soft, opulently-textured wine makes for a fabulous drink." (99pts Robert Parker, Wine Advocate #95, Oct 1994)

"The 1961 La Mission Haut-Brion has long been one of the standout wines from this legendary vintage alongside Palmer and Latour. This bottle of impeccable provenance testified that. Still youthful in colour for a 56 years old wine, the aromas stride from the glass with jaw-dropping scents of blackberry, brine, Japanese nori and crushed stone all brilliantly defined. The palate is very fresh and remains one of the most structured and masculine La Mission Haut-Brion ever produced. It takes no prisoners with its soul-clenching symmetry that would leave any grown adult totally smitten. Despite its power and grandeur, the precision from start to finish is startling and you are left with the impression that this is a wine at the very peak of its mighty powers. The only reason I am not awarding a perfect score is because of the 1955." (99 pts. Neal Martin, Vinous, Feb. 2018)
