Description

White Muscat 1953
Dessert, Massandra
Bottle (6)
Gold color. The nose on this wine is primarily centered on secondary characteristics, which of course is largely tea, apricot, peaches, lemon peel and maple in the background. You've got traces of citrus and pear but this wine is loudest in what would traditionally be peripheral flavors. The palate is very precise and balanced, which for a wine this sweet is just so crucial. Acid and alcohol work in perfect harmony to keep this wine together where it might have otherwise come out flabby and overblown. Because it's got that much character held in fine poise, this is in fact exceptional, if slightly caricatured. You might think of this as a '67 Shelby Cobra 427 that was impossibly overpowered, ridiculously brutish and yet fast and sophisticated enough to become a Ferrari killer. (93pts FCM)
