    White Muscat 1915
    Livadia, Massandra
    Bottle (1)
It is amazing to think this was one of the last wines made and indeed bottled for Czar Nicholas II himself, of that he might have put his hands on this bottle and decided not to open it one night, leaving it for me to find nearly a century later. World War I was at its peak when this was bottled and Frank Sinatra was born shortly thereafter. The dusty, quiet nose is reticent but for the presence of alcohol. The palate offers a very rapid crescendo and decrescendo but very tasty with a honey-raisin, graham cracker profile wrapped around an amaretto/cherry/marzipan core and hints of tea leaf. Not a wine of serious structure or balance but is very interesting and enjoyable. In comparison to its peers this cannot be scored very highly but this is very pleasant drinking and very intellectually satisfying. (89-90pts FCM)
