    Kagor 2000
    South Coast, Massandra
    Bottle (6)
Opaque purple/black color. Big grapey, raspberry nose with hints of a grenache-like white pepper and stone, though there is no grenache in the wine (100% Separavi). The first recognizable components of the nose smell like a great Rayas that grow sweeter in the glass. Palate opens with monster black fruit that is super primary, super pure and super satisfying. The pepper comes out on the palate with aeration bringing this baby into balance. It's not hyper sugary or syrupy, but without that pepper to bring the palate into focus it would be too sweet. Instead it has a dry vintage port character that is underlined by the slightly tannic but long red and black finish. Very good. Reminds me of '85 Fonseca but this is a bit more pure and the pronounced spirit keeps the wine a little more fresh. (93+pts FCM)
