Description

Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon 2011
Bottle (1)

The Visionary’s Cellar. This remarkable collection of California Blue Chip icons, stellar Bordeaux and more is the result of decades on coveted mailing lists and relationships carefully cultivated over more than twenty years. The consignor spared no expense in creating two extraordinary cellars: one, a showpiece of elegant lighting and design for entertaining; the other, an equally meticulous reserve for overflow of the highest caliber. Hundred Acre, Harlan Estate, Dana, Colgin—this is a titanic lineup of treasures for the discerning collector. As our generous consignor embarks on a new chapter in retirement, the fruits of his passion are now offered to our bidders. Bid with confidence—and with gusto.

“I loved the 2011 Screaming Eagle when it was in barrel and then as a young, recently-bottled wine. It is every bit compelling today. Bright red/purplish fruit, rose petal, sage, mint and white pepper lend notable energy throughout. At age ten, the 2011 positively bristles with energy and freshness. Winemaker Nick Gislason waited until the end of October to harvest. Among other things, the 2011 is unique for its high percentage of Cabernet Franc (12%). Today, the 2011 is spectacularly beautiful. Readers who own it should be thrilled.” (98 pts. Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct. 2021)

“Mindblowing nose with spearmint, cloves and blackberries. Floral, too. Full body with phenomenal detail featuring delicate but intense blackberry, espresso, toasted oak, caramel and dark chocolate. Cedar and sweet tobacco. Finesse all over. The wine of the vintage? Everything is there. Great energy.” (99 pts. James Suckling, Oct. 2014)

“Made from a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the 2011 Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon is a sexy, upfront, precociously styled wine exhibiting a dense ruby/purple color as well as lots of licorice, camphor, black currant jam, new oak and spice box characteristics. Dense, rich and impressive, the early drinking charm of the 2011 vintage gives it immediate appeal.” (91–94 pts. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, Oct. 2013)
