Single-Owner Collection of Legendary Wines, Top-Flight Young Vintages Returns to Heritage
| February 23 auction of The Lawrence Collection Part II features highlights such as 2009 Romanee Conti, 1947 Chateau Cheval Blanc, 2014 Chateau Le Pin and more DOWNLOAD DIGITAL PRESS KIT “Because the last sale was so successful, our consignor has returned with a group of wines of an even higher level of quality,” says Frank Martell, Senior Director of Fine & Rare Wine at Heritage. “And that’s saying a lot, as Part I of this collection was nothing short of incredible. Years of collecting and tasting experience went into building this cellar.” Like Heritage’s first auction of The Lawrence Collection, this sale features no shortage of legendary gems, including six bottles of 1959 Chateau Latour, a magnum of 1961 Chateau Latour, two bottles of 1947 Chateau Cheval Blanc and a magnum of 1947 Chateau La Mission Haut Brion. But unique to this iteration is the excellent selection of young vintages on offer. Among the auction’s young Bordeaux vintages are 12 bottles of 2015 Chateau Cheval Blanc, 12 bottles of 2015 Chateau Lafite Rothschild, three bottles of 2014 Chateau Le Pin, 12 bottles of 2015 Chateau Margaux and 12 bottles of 2014 Chateau Haut Brion. Though the auction is heavy on Bordeaux, there are plenty of top-flight Burgundy wines to choose from. Highlights include a bottle of 2009 Romanee Conti, three bottles of 2009 Domaine Dujac Chambertin, three bottles of 1990 George Roumier Bonnes Mares and a bottle of 1998 G. & H. Jayer Echezeaux, as well as a bottle of 1990 Leroy Richebourg and a bottle of 1990 Rouget Vosne Romanee Cros Parantoux. These classics are bolstered by compact but powerful offerings from the Rhone Valley, Champagne, Italy, Spain, the United States and Australia. Timeless wines such as 1990 Guigal La Mouline, 1959 Salon Le Mesnil, 1985 Sassicaia in magnum, large-format Masseto, Screaming Eagle and Chris Ringland Shiraz only highlight the consignor’s incredible commitment to passionately exploring elite producers in the most profound growing regions worldwide. Other standouts in the auction include 12 bottles of 2010 Pingus and six bottles of 2004 Pingus, wines the consignor considers “Tempranillo at its best.” As he told Intelligent Collector magazine last year: “While other Spanish wines have achieved international recognition, Pingus is one of the very few that have joined the ranks of the world’s most coveted wines. Like those other esteemed names, Pingus has a quality that is often lacking in today’s ‘modern’ wines — a sense of utter individuality. There is no other wine in the world today that shares Pingus’ unique signature. And, ultimately, that singularity is one of the fundamental requirements for great wine.” In addition to focusing on prestige, pedigree and quality when building his cellar, the consignor was obsessive about storing his investment safely. The collection was housed in two professional facilities, both of which feature redundant temperature and humidity controls and backup generators for a flawless and unwavering environment.
