Romanee Conti 1996 Domaine de la Romanee Conti
DALLAS, Texas (April 5, 2023) — For two decades, chef David Kinch's Los Gatos, California, restaurant Manresa captivated diners and critics alike, earning its third Michelin star in 2016 – an honor currently bestowed on only 13 restaurants in the entire United States. But in November 2022, Kinch made the surprising announcement that the fine-dining establishment known for its modern California cuisine would serve its final meal at the end of last year. "I would be remiss not to express my sadness, and the magnitude of closing the doors on January 1 after all that we've accomplished," Kinch said in a statement at the time. "But 20 years is a damn good run, and it's going to be one hell of a New Year's Eve party."

Though the Bay Area restaurant is no more, fans can have another taste of Manresa when Heritage Auctions offers the eatery's entire wine collection in its April 21 Fine & Rare Wine Signature ® Auction.

"Heritage Auctions is honored to present the Manresa Cellar," says Ty Methfessel, Consignment Director of Fine & Rare Wines at Heritage. "The list was meticulously curated over the course of the 20-year run of the restaurant by chef David Kinch and master sommelier Jim Rollston. The restaurant's two-decade run allowed an accumulation of many vintages of some iconic and rare wines from importers and producers that had long relationships with the restaurant."

Rollston, who took over wine director duties in 2014 and helped Manresa earn its third Michelin star, focused heavily on wines from France when assembling the restaurant's cellar, but he balanced the selection with world-class wines from California and other international regions. "I always seek wines that convey a distinct sense of place that says something about its makers, its origin and the culture that gave rise to it," Rollston once said. "But, above all, I'm attracted to quality."

Corton Charlemagne 2013. Coche-Dury.
That commitment to quality shines through in the bottles now available at Heritage, among them a 2019 Domain de la Romanee Conti Romanee St. Vivant, three bottles of 2017 J.F. Mugnier Bonnes Mares, a 2013 Coche-Dury Corton Charlemagne, a 2018 A. Rousseau Chambertin, a 2014 J.F. Mugnier Musigny, a 2019 Les Amoureuses, J.F. Mugnier Chambolle Musigny, two bottles of 2017 Les Amoureuses, J.F. Mugnier Chambolle Musigny and one lot containing three bottles of 2017 Les Fuees, J.F. Mugnier Chambolle Musigny and one bottle of 2018 Les Fuees, J.F. Mugnier Chambolle Musigny. "While it's difficult to think of dismantling the product of 20 years' work," Rollston says, "the knowledge that wine enthusiasts will be able to experience a bit of Manresa's conviviality and hospitality when enjoying one of these bottles reminds us, in a small way, of the joy of caring for guests nightly in the dining room for all those years."
