Robust Market Propels Fine Wine Sale to $3.5 Million at Heritage Auctions

As with all Heritage Fine & Rare Wine auctions, the event was simulcast to a standing room only saleroom at Crown Wine Cellars in Hong Kong.
"These strong prices show the depth and breadth of the wine market, which shows no signs of slowing down," said Frank Martell, Director of Fine Wine at Heritage Auctions. "We had several producers that especially stood out and nearly half the lots exceeded their high estimates."
By group:
· Ninety-eight lots of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti realized a combined $651,900 against pre-sale estimates of $488,200, as a single lot of three magnums of 1990 La Tache sold for $39,360.
· One hundred fifty three lots of First Growth Bordeaux sold for a combined $527,670, compared to pre-sale estimates of $410,700.
· Fourteen lots of Domaine Leroy brought a combined $88,314, on pre-sale estimates of $50,300
· Twenty lots of Armand Rousseau totaled $99,045, against pre-sale estimates of $65,850
Several lots soared past estimates. Leroy fared especially well as many lots sold for more than double pre-sale estimates. A dozen bottles of 1998 Leroy Savigny Les Beaune les Narbontons brought $9,840, against a $5,000 pre-sale estimate, and ten bottles of2004 Leroy Bourgogne Rouge sold for more than three times expectations when the lot closed at $8,610. A bottle of 2004 D'Auvenay Criots Batard Montrachetended at $5,412 against $2000a and one bottle of 1998 Leroy Romanee St. Vivant achieved $2,952.

Heritage Auctions' next wine event is Sept. 8 in San Francisco as part of its fourth-annual 2018 Blind Wine Challenge. Participants sample eight excellent wines over the course of 40 minutes and earn points for correctly identifying Country, Region, Varietal, Appellation, Vineyard and Producer.
