Rare SQN Double Magnum Leads Heritage Auctions’ Fine & Rare Wine Auction To More Than $3.6 Million

100%-sold sale exceeds high pre-auction high estimate

DALLAS, Texas (April 3, 2018) — The rarest double magnum of Sine Qua Non ever to come to market soared to more than three times its high pre-auction estimate to help push the final total of Heritage Auctions' Fine & Rare Wine Auction to $3,648,227 in packed showrooms in Los Angeles and Hong Kong. The event, which included record results for wines from Henri Jayer and Domaine Leroy, was full of lots in extremely high demand, with 100 percent of lots and value being sold.

"There was a serendipitous intersection of a strong market coupled with truly extraordinary consignments that captured the attention of the global community of wine collectors," Heritage Auctions Senior Director of Fine & Rare Wine Frank Martell said. "The extraordinary results for Burgundy make sense given the limited supply of the very best and the global appetite; the Sine Qua Non results were a welcome surprise."

Sine Qua Non Red 2001 Rudy Matt Cuvee Double-Magnum (1) soared all the way to $79,000 to claim top-lot honors in the 1,667-lot event, yet despite that eye-widening figure, DRC still managed to steal the show. Nearly 80 lots of DRC, which had combined pre-sale estimates of $369,000, reached nearly $580,000.

Highlights within highlights included:

· Romanee Conti 2002 Domaine de la Romanee Conti Bottle (3) sparked intense interest from multiple bidders before hammering at $45,140, against a pre-auction estimate of $32,500-42,500

· Grands Echezeaux 1990 Domaine de la Romanee Conti Bottle (12) drew $43,920 against a presale estimate of $20,000

· Echezeaux 1990 Domaine de la Romanee Conti Bottle (12) went for over double the low estimate of $14,000 and hammered for $36,600

· Romanee Conti 2006 Domaine de la Romanee Conti Bottle (2) brought in $29,280, topping the pre-auction estimate of $20,000-28,000

In addition to the auction's top lot, other rare Sine Qua Non offerings were extremely popular among collectors. Sine Qua Non Rose 1995 Queen of Hearts Bottle (1) was another that was pursued by numerous bidders, ultimately selling for $37,820, while Sine Qua Non Red 1999 Tant Pis! Magnum (2) realized $26,840.

Other top lots included, but were not limited to:

· Richebourg 1981 H. Jayer Bottle (2): $24,400

· Chateau Haut Brion Blanc 1989 Pessac-Leognan Bottle (12): $23,180

· Chateau Mouton Rothschild 2000 Pauillac Bottle (12): $23,180

· Chateau Petrus 1983 Pomerol Bottle (12): $21,960

The next Heritage Auctions Wine Auction is June 22-23 in Beverly Hills. Consignments are being accepted through May 2.
