Bottle (12)
Xavier and Carolyn Valero built their collection bottle by bottle, purchasing directly from the California producers they most admired. Professionally stored in a climate-controlled facility, the wines have been impeccably preserved. This inaugural release showcases the Valeros’ passion for authenticity and excellence in California Cabernet.
"A very successful 1994. A similar hue to Ducru 1994. There is an initial burst of scorched earth on first pour, which gradually changes into a very pretty, succulent nose of sweet cherry, raspberry, violets and burnt toast. The palate has impressive concentration, well-balanced, very fresh and full of zest. Note of sea-salt and oyster shells. Well-integrated tannins with a dark of melted dark chocolate on the finish. One of the best 1994's I have tasted." (91-93 pts. Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, May 2004)
"Cos d'Estournel's unfiltered 1994 is one of the top wines of the vintage. It boasts an opaque blue/black/purple color, as well as a fabulously sweet nose of black fruits, licorice, pain grillee, and Asian spices. Full-bodied, with sweet, opulent fruit that reveals none of the vintage's tough tannin, this remarkably rich, well-balanced, classic wine will prove to be uncommonly long-lived. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2025. Cos d'Estournel is clearly producing wines that are often of first-growth potential" (91 pts. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, Feb. 1997)
