"Composed of 43% Merlot, 48% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Cabernet Franc and with a very deep garnet-purple color, the 2012 Second Flight has an enticingly savory nose with notes of smoked meats, yeast extract, tapenade and truffles over a core of crème de cassis and plum preserves plus a touch of Indian spices. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated in the mouth, it has firm, velvety tannins and plenty of background freshness supporting the generous fruit, finishing long and spicy." (96 pts. "The 2012 Second Flight is just starting to show the first signs of aromatic development. Dark cherry, mocha, licorice, tobacco, scorched earth and dried herbs are nicely delineated. This is an especially savory Second Flight from the early days of this wine before the estate had more clearly defined it as a Merlot-based blend. As a result, there's quite a bit of Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc character in this vintage. A host of floral and savory overtones extend the finish nicely." (94 pts.
