The Cellar Beneath II: A Second Descent into One of Philadelphia’s Most Meticulously Built Cellars. This second tranche returns to the same carefully engineered, temperature-controlled vault highlighting pristinely stored OWC Bordeaux.
“This is enjoyable, and as you find in most instances in 2013, the gap between the main estate wine and its second label is wide. Enjoyably supple texture to the tannins, and there is a charming unrolling of woodsmoke, liquorice and crayon across the blackberry and raspberry fruits. Harvest ran from Sept. 26 to Oct. 16. Seventy percent of the blend went into the grand vin, with yields of 30 hl/ha (Merlot particularly low). Managing director Hervé Berland. No chaptalisation at Montrose except for two small plots of Merlot, the first to be picked.” (92 pts. Jane Anson, Feb. 2022)
