The Cellar Beneath, A Debut Offering from a Visionary Philadelphia Collector: All wines have been stored in one of the most remarkable private cellars we have encountered, a hidden, temperature-controlled vault built beneath the home with an entrance worthy of a spy film.
"Deep plum/purple, Haut-Bailly’s 2010 required some coaxing to appreciate its subtle notes of barbecue smoke, lead pencil shavings and creme de cassis as well as its touches of pomegranate and forest floor. The oak is pushed far into the background and the tannins are extremely silky, but the intensity of the wine is profound and the finish lingers for close to 55 seconds. This wine is ripe yet delicate, powerful yet stylish, and essentially resembles a remarkable fashion design from a house of haute couture. This wine needs a good 7-8 years of bottle age and should keep for 40-50+ years." (98 pts. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, Feb. 2013)
“The 2010 Haut-Bailly was served at dinner following the Giscours vertical. This has a powerful and almost primal bouquet with copious scents of black cherries, crushed stones and violets—the latter perhaps more prominent than previous bottles. The palate is, again, perhaps due to impeccable provenance, backward and obviously a decade away from its peak. But what a peak that will be, promising intense black fruit notes laced with tobacco and sous-bois. Quite audacious on the finish, the 2010 is a gem.” (96 pts. Neal Martin, Vinous, October 2024)
