Description

Clos de la Roche 1991
Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Ponsot
6wrl
Bottle (7)

The Roberts Cellar – part four! The following lots are consigned by the estate of one of our biggest all-time consignors. This is the fourth and final installment coming from this incredible collector, which was stored underground in a temperature and humidity-controlled cellar. Many of these wines are the finest examples of their kind that we have ever had the pleasure of cataloguing. This is a fitting swansong for one of America’s great treasure troves.

"Intense aromas of spice, clove, leather and tea lead to big, full, wonderfully complex flavors offering extraordinary length. This is drinking perfectly now though there is enough structure that it could still be held as the structure will continue to soften. I very much like this though if there is any reproach, it's that there is not great delineation but otherwise, this is indeed a lovely wine that is drinking very well at present." (93 pts. Allen Meadows, Burghound, Apr. 2004)

"A fully mature and expressive nose of concentrated and gorgeously complex aromas of spice, earth, leather and tea lead to big, full-bodied and powerful flavors of equal complexity that deliver truly extraordinary length. This is drinking perfectly now though there is enough structure that it could still be held as the tannins will continue to soften. I very much like this though if there is anything to reproach, it's that there is not great delineation on the slightly warm finish but otherwise, this is indeed a genuinely great wine." (96 pts. Allen Meadows, Burghound, Apr. 2015)
