A short and stout consignment from a Relais and Chateaux Inn on Lake Michigan. These bottles were only listed on the "Reserve List" which in the owner would only offer to serious wine customers. One can see why immediately. Bottles stored in the below ground wine cellar at the estate.
"This has always possessed one of the most complex and kaleidoscopically brillant noses of any recent vintage of the Rousseau Chambertin with its gorgeous array of secondary fruit, earth, spice, game, tea, floral and sandalwood nuances. There is equally fine complexity to the powerful, concentrated and intensely stony medium weight plus flavors that culminate in a hugely long finish that displays just a hint of an edge. This is a magisterially elegant wine that delivers the classic power without weight expression that is so Chambertin in character. I would further observe that the '91 Cham just seems to get better and better because while there are still mildly firm finishing tannins, the mouth coating richness seems to keep pace. Only a handful of Burgundies ever show this level of quality and this has to be one of the top five wines of the vintage. In sum this is reference standard Chambertin that should drink well for years, perhaps even decades, to come. Be sure to give this at least 30 minutes of air." (97 pts.
