"Roasted, secondary fruit notes cut with warm earth followed by very big, almost syrah like flavors of exceptionally good richness and depth plus superb length. A decidedly atypical '85 as it is extremely ripe and completely coats the palate with the dramatically powerful, beautifully textured, indeed even opulent and velvety flavors. Impressive wine but as noted, the '85 Charmes is not a typical Burgundy." (92 pts. Allen Meadows, Burghound, Nov. 2004)
