Description

Echezeaux 1980
H. Jayer
lbsl
Bottle (1)

"Mostly bricked through. Like all of the best 1980s the highly expressive sous-bois and spice-inflected nose is perfumed and wonderfully elegant though there is a hint of volatile acidity present. The strikingly energetic, intense and well-detailed middle weight flavors possess outstanding complexity on the balanced and beautifully persistent finish. The supporting tannins are now almost fully resolved and the usual bright acidity of the 1980 vintage is present without being intrusive or drying. While this beauty should continue to drink well for another 5 to perhaps even 10 years, I would be looking for reasons to drink up. In short, this is a knockout and could be Jayer's best wine in 1980." (95 pts. Allen Meadows, Burghound, Mar 2019)
