Chateau Cos d'Estournel 1928St. Estephe

Bottle (1)
"This has always been considered one of the great 1928s and when I first tasted it a number of years ago it was nearly perfect. This particular bottle displayed the tough tannin that is a characteristic of the vintage. No doubt the high tannin and rich concentration are the reasons why so many 1928s are in superb condition at 65 years of age. The color was a dusty, dark ruby/garnet, and the bouquet offered aromas of sweet red and black fruits, damp earth, oak, and an interesting pine tree-like scent." (92 pts. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, Dec. 1993)
"The 1928 Cos d'Estournel is slightly deeper in color than the 1929. The bouquet is magnificent: vestiges of red fruit that will last a century, escorted by sandalwood, freshly tilled soil, fresh mint and blood orange. This is everything you would want in a 1928 Left Bank...and some. The palate is masculine and structured like so many wines in this vintage and it continues to grip the mouth after some 90 years. It is not as elegant as the 1949 Cos d'Estournel and it does not have quite the persistence, yet its sheer presence is impossible to ignore." (95 pts. Neal Martin, Vinous, Feb. 2018)
