Chateau Giscours 2000
Margaux
owc
Bottle (12)

Acquired in the early-mid 90s through reputable channels and stored behind a secret panel, carved beneath the foundation of a magnificent Bel-Air home, with redundant temperature and humidity control.

"Probably the finest Giscours made since the 1975, this black/purple-colored 2000 offers up terrific notes of camphor, creosote, blackberry, and cassis jam intermixed with notions of smoke and earth. Spicy, with low acidity, a big, rich, fleshy, full-bodied palate, outstanding texture, and a long, pure finish, it is, to reiterate, one of the best Giscours produced over the last 25 years." (92 pts. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, April 2003)

“I appreciate this big, rich style of wine with a deep inner core of colour and fruit that is almost on the overripe side. The extraction seems a little more pushed, the tannins chunky and slightly chewy on the finish. That said, there's still an innate freshness and gourmand nature to the wine. It will appeal to those that prefer a plusher style, less so those that have a more classic leaning.” (91 pts. James Lawther MW, Decanter, July 2021)

“The 2000 Giscours is consistent with the bottle that I tasted in 2021—still those red plum and cedar scents, and a hint of black olive compote, decently delineated. Nicely balanced, the palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. It's lightly spiced with a touch of balsamic towards the finish. This is not a bad millennial, but it's missing a little grace.” (90 pts. Neal Martin, Vinous, Oct. 2024)

“Still a little angular in its tannic structure but softens to show cassis and bilberry, tobacco and black chocolate, smoked earth. There is a gourmet attraction here, with a rich and creamy texture through the mid palate once it opens, and it feels at a great moment to drink.” (92 pts. Jane Anson, Feb. 2024)
